The challenge
The existing jet fans and extract ventilation systems showed signs of ageing, corrosion and heavy contamination. Restricted access and congested services added to the challenge, making both installation and ongoing maintenance more difficult.
Following an initial appointment to an alternative contractor, the project was realigned through the ABM-Woods partnership. The objective was to upgrade the ventilation system, improve reliability and maintainability, and complete the works without disrupting the live retail environment.
A complete turnkey solution
Woods Air Movement took responsibility for the manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of the replacement ventilation equipment, providing a single point of responsibility throughout delivery.
Working closely with ABM and site stakeholders, the team coordinated the removal of ageing equipment and installation of replacement jet fans around the practical constraints of the site.
Planned around site operations
Installation was completed through a phased night-work programme, with multiple fans replaced during each shift. Controlled lifting operations and traffic management supported the works within the restricted space.
Close coordination between Woods, ABM and the site team kept the programme moving while maintaining the ventilation system in a safe operational state. This allowed the shopping centre and service tunnel to continue operating without disruption.
The result
The completed installation provides modern, accessible and reliable ventilation equipment, with a significant improvement in system condition and maintainability.
Through coordinated delivery, the ABM-Woods partnership brought the project to completion and left the site with a ventilation system that is easier to access and maintain.
