New Northern Line Stations Open Using Woods Ventilation & Fire Safety Fans
Woods is please to celebrate that we played a part in the successful opening of Battersea and Nine Elms London Underground Stations. The Northern Line Extension is the first major extension of the London Underground since the Jubilee Line was extended to Stratford in 1999 (which Woods also supplied the fans for). The new section connects Kensington to two new stations at Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station.
Construction began in 2015 and our tunnel fans were installed in 2020-21. These new tunnels have the distinction of being the widest tunnels of the entire Tube network which lead to the project needing a ventilation solution to match.
Woods Air Movement designed and supplied 16 tunnel ventilation axial fans for the new Northern Line Extension. These consisted of:
8 x 1.6 meter reversible JM fans
4 x 2.5 meter reversible JM fans
4 x 2.65 meter reversible JM fans
The fans were a combination of high temperature smoke extract fans, for fire safety, and day to day ventilations fans, providing fresh air and cooling.
